Like other top iRobot models (including the top choice), they use smart mapping technology to design detailed floor plans that avoid common obstacles like cords and furniture legs. The robots also come with Carpet Boost, a feature which boosts its power when it senses dirt on the carpet.
Both the Q5 and Q7 Max Series get very excellent scores in our tests on floors that are bare and are particularly effective in removing pet hair. However, they have a few flaws that keep them from being our top pick. One of the flaws of the Q5 is its navigation system doesn't have AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's thus susceptible to become stuck on shoes and socks and couldn't navigate densely packed rooms very well in our tests. It also doesn't come with a camera to look around corners.
However, it's a good choice for those who want to save money on a Roomba from iRobot and have a bare-floored home or office. It's also very quiet and operates while you're at work or in school. It doesn't have the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming that is offered by the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective at mopping. It is dependent on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick well and isn't able to handle dried-on debris. The Q5 has self-emptying docks, however. And, if you need to change the mopping pad to a dry one in seconds.
2. IRobot Roomba
The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive vacuuming and mopping capabilities into a compact, sleek package. Its agile navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it simple to clean and effective at taking on larger particles, such as pet hair. It also comes with a self-emptying bin, powerful suction, and support for virtual boundaries. It's the best robot hoover for carpets but it falls behind some competitors when it comes to deep cleaning.
This top-performing mop and vacuum combo makes use of advanced sensors to stay clear of obstacles and pet waste, and it will learn your home's layout over time to provide more efficient cleaning. The app lets you set up zones and modify the cleaning schedule. Its battery life is average in comparison to other models.

During testing, the X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop to complete an entire house, finishing with only 66 percent of its battery left. It did a great cleaning job on various rooms and floors with various flooring types including some area rug. Its obstacle detection was excellent, and it avoided fake dog turds, socks, shoes, and bundles of cables.
It's a little more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, however it offers superior suction, a built-in dust bin that automatically fills up its base, and it supports voice commands via Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It is able to clean floors even after it vacuums. This is a feature that we haven't seen on other robotic vacuum/mop combinations.
3. Roomba X40 from iRobot
With an elegant circular design that appears more like a regular Roomba rather than the compact models, this robot vacuum and mop combo is one of the most attractive designs in our evaluations. The latest model from iRobot is also its smartest. It comes with advanced features, like enhanced dirt detection and future compatibility (another company’s robot that can wash mop pads autonomously).
It's the only robotic mop or vacuum to score 100% in our tests thanks to a blend of high-tech sensors, including a camera, structured light system and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could fill and empty its basestation autonomously. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop mops.
Like other iRobot models as well, the X40 is user-friendly, with a simple mobile app interface as well as integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit as well as Google Assistant. The only drawback is that the X40 is still a loud unit. This can be a concern in the mornings before work, or in the evening when you are trying to fall asleep.
It's also quite expensive but not as much as the Ecovacs S8 MaxV Ultra or Roborock S8 Omni, which are equally capable and better looking. If you're willing to live with a little more noise and a little more cost, this is a very capable two-in-one that should satisfy most people.
4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra
The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the line robot mop and vacuum. It has a range of advanced features that make you forget about your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaning machine, similar to Ecovacs top-of-the-line X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It has a multifunction dock which automatically emptys the bin of the vacuum, refills the water tank, as well as washes and dries the mop pads.
The smart robot utilizes LIDAR and structured lighting to draw out floorplans and identify obstacles. It is more efficient in its navigation than its competitors with premium features. It also has a front-mounted camera for real-time detection of hazards, although this wasn't quite foolproof in our testing and was often confused by power cords or other obstructions.
Its vacuum has a suction maximum of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to get the job done. If you have a bigger home, it's worth selecting a robot that comes with spot or zone cleaning mode. This allows you to inform the robot of which area of your home needs to be cleaned using the app or voice command. If you have furniture, a stair-mode is also a good option. For busy families, a recharge feature and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to continue from where it left off can be extremely useful.
5. iRobot Roomba RX3
The RX3 is more sophisticated than the price suggests. It has a great vacuuming performance, picking up 55% debris in our tests. (It was second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops with one pad, which uses a reciprocating motion, which does a better job cleaning than the other robot mop cleaners we've tested. It's also highly self-sufficient, with a fully-featured application, and a self emptying, washable base.
The iRobot app is designed to guide you through an exercise in mapping, which gathers information on your floorplan and any "no go" areas that you've marked on the map. You can use it to make cleaning schedules, set up a spot clean or to sort out your rooms with the most dirt for better performance. The app also provides access to a host of features like seasonal suggestions, custom maps, and advanced settings for your cleaning.
It can also reach corners and under furniture better because its shape is more rectangular. It has an impressive 8,000 Pascal suction, as well as sophisticated combs that remove pet hair. You can also organize a spot-cleaner that will thoroughly clean the area.
The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a more sleek more affordable alternative to iRobot Roomba. It's got a more attractive style, much like Dolce & Gabbana.
